A Letter to God Story Class 10 Chapter 1First Flight (2023)

A Letter to God

"A Letter to God" is a short story by the famous writer, G.L. Fuentes. The story is set in a small village in Mexico, and it revolves around a poor farmer named Lencho, who writes a letter to God after his crops are destroyed by a hailstorm.

In the story, Lencho is a simple, hardworking farmer who relies on his crops for survival. He has always believed in God and the power of prayer, and he trusts that God will help him in his time of need. However, when a violent hailstorm destroys his entire crop, Lencho is left devastated and hopeless. He feels that he has lost everything and that there is no hope for him or his family.

Determined to seek God's help, Lencho decides to write a letter to God, asking him to send him 100 pesos so that he can plant his crops again. In the letter, Lencho pours out his heart and soul, expressing his faith in God and his unwavering belief that God will help him. He even goes so far as to thank God in advance for the money that he is sure will come.

Lencho sends the letter to God through the post office, addressed simply to "God, in Heaven". The postmaster, who is amused by the letter, shows it to his colleagues and they all chip in to collect the 100 pesos that Lencho has asked for. They then send the money back to Lencho, along with a letter from God, reassuring him that help is on the way.

When Lencho receives the money, he is overjoyed and grateful, but he is also confused. He had asked for 100 pesos, but the money he received was only 70 pesos. Convinced that the post office employees must have taken some of the money for themselves, Lencho writes another letter to God, asking him to send him the rest of the money as soon as possible.

The story ends on a humorous note, with the postmaster and his colleagues laughing at Lencho's naivety and his unwavering faith in God. However, the story also carries a deeper message about the power of faith and the importance of helping those in need. Despite the post office employees' intentions, Lencho's faith in God had been restored, and he had received the help he needed to get back on his feet.
